About Me

Hi, I’m Skyler Baker, and I joined Tranquil JC in January 2024. I’ve been a dedicated mental health professional for over four years, and I’m passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges. I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Lees-McRae College and my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Milligan University in 2020.

I use a combination of holistic counseling and evidence-based approaches to create a safe, therapeutic space where healing and growth can thrive. I specialize in working with trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I also work with individuals aged 13 and older, couples, and families.

My Approach

In therapy, I draw from a variety of techniques, including:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic-based processes to address trauma.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to work through anxiety and depression.

  • The Gottman Method to strengthen relationships and help couples and families navigate challenges.

I’m dedicated to creating an inclusive and affirming space for the LGBTQIA+ community and continuously engage in ongoing education to meet the unique needs of diverse individuals. I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful healing and personal transformation.

  • Why I became a therapist: I believe everyone deserves a safe space to feel heard and validated. My own mental health journey inspired me to help others.

  • Who I work with most: I often work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, as well as couples and families looking to strengthen their relationships.

  • My counseling style: I aim to create a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space tailored to your unique needs.

  • A self-help book I recommend: The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz.

  • Hobbies and interests: I’m a proud pet parent to two cats and a dog, and I absolutely love traveling—Ireland has been my favorite destination so far!

  • Favorite novel: Alice in Wonderland.
